How To Choose Between Top Loading and Front Loading Washing Machines
filed in Environment on Dec.18, 2009
Do you not know, which type of washing machine, you should buy, a top loaded or a front loaded model, then read on to learn about the differences between the two models.
The top loading washing machine is used in many homes in USA. Almost all housewives have used this model at some point. And it does also have several advances.
It is faster to wash your clothes with a top loaded model than with the front loaded version. The reason is a shorter washing cycle. The price for the machine itself is also cheaper. Finally is it easier to load the machine from the top than from the front.
If we look at the disadvantages, there will be a greater wear and tear in the clothes, because the top loaded model uses an agitator. But what is more important is that the top loaded model is less energy effective, because it uses both more water and electricity than the front loaded model.
The front loading washing machine is already very popular in most European countries. And more and more people are also buying it in USA. The reason is first of all because it is more energy effective than the top loaded model.
The top loading washing machine uses up to 60 % more water and electricity compared to the front loading machine. So even though the front loader version is more expensive to buy, the savings can be huge in the everyday life.
The front loader version is also smaller; even though the capacity is the same. Most people will probably also find it both sleeker and better looking than the traditional top loading model.
But the frontloaded washing machine does also have its share of disadvantages. It is more expensive upfront than the top loader model. And it is also more difficult to load, which can be a problem for older people. The washing time is also longer (because it does not use an agitator).
So which type you should choose depends on how you weight the advantages and disadvantages. If you want a green washing machine, you should choose the front loader version, because it saves water and energy.
But are the washing time and loading easiness more important, then the top loading version will be a better option for you.
